Vineyard
Overlooking the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island, Herons Rise Vineyard has been producing fine wines in southern Tasmania for many years. The vineyard was planted in 1984, and wine was first produced for sale under the Herons Rise label in 1991.
The vineyard which is orientated to the northeast, is planted with three grape varieties; Muller Thurgau, Riesling and Pinot Noir.
Our white wine is made predominantly from Muller Thurgau which is sometimes blended with Riesling. Muller Thurgau, a German variety developed for colder climates, produces an aromatic wine which develops delightful tropical fruit characters with a little bottle age. Visitors enjoy the wine and appreciate tasting this lesser known white variety which does extremely well at this latitude. The 2005 wine was awarded a bronze medal in The Tasmanian Wine Show.
The red wine produced by Herons Rise Vineyard is made from Pinot Noir grapes. Tasmania is well suited to producing some great wines from Pinot Noir. The Geneva Double Curtain trellis system gives the fruit great exposure to the sun maximizing the flavours in the wine.
